My'ndful Garden

Dear Reader,
During the pandemic many people became involved in flow activities, where you lose sense of time and become one with what you’re doing. My friend Sue baked amazing artisanal bread. My husband posted performances of original music he wrote. I continued to embroider the tablecloth my mother-in-law had stopped working on when her eyesight was gone; and many people all over the world took up gardening. In fact, seed companies had a hard time keeping up with the demand. Happily, studies show people are keeping up with gardening.

The little vegetable garden also solved a landscaping problem for me. In the past, the area of land where it’s situated would just become puddles, but landscaping rocks and the raised bed have put an end to that. So far we’ve grown tomatoes, peppers, yellow squash, and herbs. I asked my son not to put typical chicken wire around it because I wanted ease of access. Herds of deer do pass through but so far Deer Out has kept them from eating anything. It’s only my opinion, but I don’t think deer like to step on landscape rock either.
We jazzed up the posts with end caps and added low garden fencing to give it a finished look. Max added a solar glass bird as a decoration and at night time the bird is a tiny, glowing beacon that makes me think of my son and fills me with gratitude. I’m a lucky mom.
